Those plague doctor pix are amazing. The "beak" used to be filled with a variety of herbs intended both to immunize the doctor and alleviate the stench of rotting corpses (which often rotted before the deceased deceased).
Of course, the average life expectancy in those days was maybe 40 anyway, but still ...
